The Grand Piano

Bay Area experimental writing 1975-80

The second half of the nineteen seventies saw an explosion of activity in experimental writing in the Bay Area, some of which is recalled in THE GRAND PIANO. Others too have recalled these heady days — e.g. poet/publisher Geoff Young and poet David Bromige.

Poetry readings, public talks, residencies, performances, literary presses and magazines flourished. An intense and comradely community and social life provided both backdrop and stimulus to the hectic pace of artistic activity.

With this archive, we hope to help create as complete a record as possible of the Bay Area experimental writing scene 1975-80. Please if you can add to or improve any materials on these pages.
